CASA DO JOA

We are an artisan chocolate maker: we respect this product in its essence, its origins and we study the best harmonies with Portuguese products.

We also have a vocation for design, which is why personalised chocolates are a challenge we love to take on.

Some of the vineyards belong to the select group of 3% of European vineyards that resisted phylloxera, which is why today there are some vines with more than 150 years of history, a vineyard with vines so old that they are presumed to be free-standing, with trunks that often reach more than 15 centimetres in diameter. There are grape varieties yet to be identified within the enormous ampelographic variety.

During the harvest, more than 20 types of red, rosé and white grapes are picked by hand, and part of the treading process is still ‘pisa a pé’, as our tradition dictates. Finally, with prolonged ageing in used oak barrels, we aim to produce elegant, natural and genuine wines that convey our ‘Terroir’ and that can continue to evolve and mature over time in bottles.

This is the story of Casa do Joa. A story of passion for ‘art and wine’, a tribute to the people of Trás-os-Montes, their heritage and their culture.

The aim: to provide a pleasant, sensory experience. Present in 19 Michelin-starred restaurants around the world, we want to be at the best moment of your life celebrating with these wines full of typicality.

Purpose: To transmit wine culture, preserve old vineyards and grape varieties, preserve traditional methods and make wines with the greatest possible expression of TERROIR.
